We value positive relationships with parents and carers to help develop better social and emotional skills in children. We know that when children are engaged with their learning, they attend school more regularly, leading to better long term outcomes.

For parenting and counselling services, visit the Family Support page, and for direction and clarity on regulations, processes and procedures at our school, read the Sydney Catholic School policies.

St Francis Xavier Catholic Primary School Lurnea regularly invites parents and carers to be part of their child’s learning here at school, and we celebrate and appreciate the support of our parent community.

Volunteer
Parents are welcome to assist the school in the canteen, library and classrooms as well as during school excursions and events. All parent volunteers need to attend an induction workshop that focuses on Child Safe Schools and Workplace Health and Safety.

Parent Advisory Council
Representative parents from each grade are invited to be part of the council after a period of nomination. Other members of the council include the parish priest, the principal, the assistant principal, and the family educator. The council meets once per term and each member is invited to serve for two years. Each representative parent is a link between the parent body and school leadership for their grade and is asked to take on the responsibility for one fundraising/community venture each year. Valuable funds for our school through events such as Father’s and Mother’s Day stalls, school discos, raffles and the uniform shop. All fundraising efforts support St Francis Xavier’s ongoing commitment to enhancing learning resources for students. The Parents and Friends (P&F) is an excellent way for new families to connect with other parents and feel part of our vibrant community.

Communication
We encourage parents to meet with their child’s teacher through appointments and scheduled interview times. Parents are also welcome to meet with the principal or assistant principal. Other regular communication includes our fortnightly newsletter, the Compass app, email, phone and parent forum.
